Plain-English info for customers about how Sweet Intentions Fla operates under Florida’s cottage food law.
Who we are
Sweet Intentions Fla (@sweetintentionsfla) makes homemade cakes and treats from a residence on Florida’s Treasure Coast. We are a Florida cottage food operation under Fla. Stat. § 500.80.
What that means for you
- Our products are made in a home kitchen, not a commercial food establishment permitted under Florida’s usual food-safety inspection program for restaurants and food processors.
- Under § 500.80, a cottage food operation that follows the statute is exempt from the food-establishment permitting that applies to permitted kitchens (see § 500.12), while still following the cottage-food rules in chapter 500.
- We sell direct-to-consumer only. We do not sell wholesale to stores, cafés, or other resellers.
- Annual gross sales of cottage food products may not exceed $250,000.
- Products we sell are meant to be properly labeled with the elements Florida requires (summarized below).
Label elements (summary)
Cottage food packages we sell should include, as required by § 500.80(3):
- The name and address of the cottage food operation
- The name of the cottage food product
- The ingredients of the cottage food product, in descending order of predominance by weight
- The net weight or net volume of the cottage food product
- Allergen information as specified by federal labeling requirements
- If any nutritional claim is made, appropriate nutritional information as specified by federal labeling requirements
- The required statutory statement (below), printed in at least 10-point type in a color that clearly contrasts with the label background
